Sustainable Livelihood Initiatives In Uttar Pradesh

Rural Entrepreneurship and development strategies are being undertaken in a big way to ensure alleviation of poverty and unemployment.

 

With the motive of promoting MSMEs in rural areas of the state, EDII has mounted several programmes, including .

SIDBI sponsored 5-year Micro Enterprise Promotion Programme is being conducted with the objective of ensuring setting up of new enterprises in Varanasi.

NABARD sponsored Skill Development Initiatives (SDI) have been undertaken at Basti and Chandauli, wherein inputs in entrepreneurship & schemes of assistance, project selection & its pre-feasibility, project report preparation and management inputs are imparted.

EDII and Government of Uttar Pradesh are working on the modalities of co-creating a University that will focus on development of entrepreneurship and innovation in Uttar Pradesh. This initiative would be the first-of-its-kind in the country.

Efforts are being directed towards undertaking Entrepreneurial activities to ensure higher incidence of New Enterprise Creation among Differently abled people so as to empower them economically and bring them into the mainstream.

Creation of model Gaushalas in the state would be undertaken to focus on developing useful products from metabolic wastes of the 'Holy Cow', and brand them effectively in the open market.

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has launched the 'Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana' with the goal of generating employment in the traditional sector. The beneficiaries under the scheme are traditional facilitators like carpenters, barbers, black smiths, potters etc. who are being trained to upgrade their skills. The Institute conducts Skill Enhancement Training for Traditional Artisans in 5 districts of the state, namely Basti, Ballia, Mau, Siddharth Nagar & Sant Kabir Nagar. To provide them opportunities for livelihood, the government also distributed modern tool kits upon successful completion of training.

Centre for Empowerment of Differently Abled (CEDA)

State and Societies have continually sought to institute plans and methods to evolve an inclusive approach to growth so that the struggles of the disadvantaged and the deprived could be reduced, and they could be integrated in the mainstream social structure. Several amiable policies and approaches have been put in place to ensure their wellbeing, including that of the differently abled whose daily struggles for living and livelihood are overwhelming.

Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Programme

EDII has been roped in as a National Resource Organisation (NRO) for implementing the largest PAN-India rural poverty eradication programme, the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP). SVEP is the sub-scheme under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) with the objective of helping Self Help Groups (SHGs) and their family members to set-up small enterprises in the non-farm sector.

Aspirational Districts Embrace Entrepreneurship

Under the Government of India’s policy initiative for inclusive development and rapid transformation of 115 backward districts across the country, EDII has been entrusted by the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India to conduct short-term Entrepreneurship Sensitization and Development Programmes (ESDP) in 40 districts across the country.
