  • National Team Leader - Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) India; led multi-country research project titled, ‘Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2012-till date.
  • ‘Review of Curricula on Entrepreneurship in Institutions of Higher Learning’: The project analysed Entrepreneurship Curricula of about 40 universities and engineering colleges of India, besides undertaking a comparative study of the curricula of Indian and US institutions. The study served as a critical input for University Grants Commission (UGC)'s review of curriculum on Entrepreneurship for Vocational Education (Year 1998).
  • ‘Entry Barriers to Entrepreneurship: As Perceived by Youths’ (jointly with Dr. Dinesh Awasthi) based on perceptions of 1,625 graduates and young employees from four Indian states the study aimed to identify factors that facilitated and/ or hampered their choice for Entrepreneurship as a Career Option (Year 2003).
  • Country Director (Lao PDR), UNIDO-GoI sponsored Inter-Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship and Investment Training. Monitored the project and conducted number of programmes in the country on ‘New Enterprise Creation’, ‘Enterprise Up gradation’ and ‘Family Business Management’, during 2004-08
  • Anchored Multi-country Project on ‘Entrepreneurship Development’ in Greater Mekong Sub-region Countries (GMS) involving Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand and selected provinces of China, during 2006-2011
  • ‘Entry Barriers to Entrepreneurship for Greater Mekong Sub-region Countries as Perceived by Youth (Young Employees and Students)’ sponsored by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Berne, Switzerland, 2009.

Teaching and training interests are in behavioural science, entrepreneurship education and corporate entrepreneurship. Research and consulting interests include entry barriers to entrepreneurship, curriculum development, intrapreneurship, family business management and organisational culture. Has been helping various organisations and corporates in strategic planning and capacity building of employees besides grooming their managers as intrapreneurs, leading to a conducive climate for corporate entrepreneurship. Currently, the national team leader of Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) India.

Work Experience

  • More than 23 years of professional experience in entrepreneurship teaching, training, research and consulting, including over 10 years of experience in heading academic programmes, both through regular and ODL modes.
  • Research study ‘Review of Entrepreneurship Curricula in Higher Learning Institutions’ helped University Grants Commission (the apex body of higher education), Government of India in developing entrepreneurship curriculum. Another research ‘Entry Barriers to Entrepreneurship: As Perceived by Youth’, helped the then Ministry of SSI & ARI (Now Ministry of MSME), Government of India frame a policy to establish Entrepreneurship and Business Development Centers in Universities.
  • Steered growth of the Institute’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Research (CEER) and acted as the Chairperson (PG Programmes).
  • Under his leadership the PGDM-BE programme was accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), granted equivalence to MBA by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and it also made a beginning in attracting international students. Launched AICTE approved ‘Fellowship Program in Management (FPM)’, a pioneering research course, focusing on Entrepreneurship Research.
  • Has been leading the acclaimed Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) India National Team, from 2012 onwards.
  • Offered Career Guidance and Succession Planning for young generation from renowned business families.
  • Core group member of Institute’s resource team, to train Master Trainers of Technical and Vocational Training Organization, Government of Iran, during 2008-2015.
  • Helped Rajasthan State organization ‘Entrepreneurship and Management Development Institute’ (EMI) with its vision and strategic planning document after a critical review of its performance and potential.
  • Monitored a number of academic, long and short term collaborative programmes with different universities and institutions.
  • In-charge of EDII offices of Lucknow, Bhubaneswar and Bhopal, besides Sino- India Entrepreneurship Development and Research Center, Kunming, China.
  • As part of Initiative for ASEAN Integration in institutionalizing entrepreneurship activities in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam, actively involved in various activities of Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDCs) of these countries and have also conducted a series of entrepreneurship sensitization workshops for policy makers and key officials of industry departments in these countries (except in Myanmar), since 2004.
  • Introduced entrepreneurship courses at premier national academic Institutions.
  • Convener, Bharti Centre for Entrepreneurial Initiatives at EDII since its inception in 2002, till 2010.
  • Launched Summer Camp on Entrepreneurial Stimulation for Children in 1994.

Worked on Micro Skill-Preneurship Programme through CSR initiatives of multinational companies in India. He has handled the task of networking and catalysing vital linkages between the organisation and several donor agencies, organisations and national-level institutions. Engaged in areas of rural development, development of micro enterprises, implementing and providing hand-holding support to unorganised sectors like handlooms, handicrafts and village industries. He has also been engaged in action research, evaluation studies, etc. Besides other EDII activities, he works as a Cluster Development Executive for Chanderi/Gwalior handloom clusters and is engaged in planning and implementation of the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) of the Ministry of Rural Development, GoI.
