Centre For Entrepreneurship Education & Research

  Vision
  • To act as a key resource centre for policy-level interventions, curriculum design, resource material and human resource development in entrepreneurship education at national and international levels.
  • To undertake and support research in entrepreneurship and disseminate findings through seminars, workshops and publications of repute.

Just as one comes across reams of papers and umpteen books devoted to honing people’s managerial skills, one doesn’t see similarly insightful material advocating entrepreneurial principles. This is perhaps because entrepreneurial skills have been considered an inherent talent and little has been explored in the direction of training people to acquire these skills. Fortunately, however, that’s not the fact. EDI and several other institutes with a similar mandate have a different story to narrate. To take an example, EDI’s two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Business Entrepreneurship imparts training to youths to either set up their own enterprises or get trained to join their family business. The programme has been receiving encouraging response.

However, mastering entrepreneurship lessons has a deeper meaning; these have to be mastered with the intent of applying the knowledge in real life situations. There are some staggering reports of people who haven’t gone through the conventional system of education yet made it big in the field of business. These may be naturally endowed but it is also true that similar ‘fire in the belly’ spirit can be ignited in our youths and children by imparting an early orientation. EDI’s National Summer Camps for children and youth have nurtured these target groups’ understanding on entrepreneurship, besides fostering a keen sense of entrepreneurial innovation, competency and creativity in them. One-day Entrepreneurial Orientation Camps for college students from across the country has shaped up as one of the most result-oriented strategies to drive in the spirit to pursue entrepreneurship. What is heartening is that the faculty group, i.e. our university professors and lecturers have come forward to challenge the fallacy that entrepreneurs cannot be made. Under EDI’s ‘Faculty Development Programmes’ they are learning ‘how to teach entrepreneurship.’ Not just that, scholars from across the country also visit EDI as a part of The Biennial Conference on Entrepreneurship to share their views related to entrepreneurship. The Bharti Lecture Series have also played a powerful role in shaping beliefs on this discipline.

Propensity for action is what distinguishes entrepreneurs. While some exhibit this, they do not get the opportunities to hone their skills. EDI’s Open Learning Diploma in Entrepreneurship (OLPE) gives them an opportunity to build a success castle on their ideas and by their action in the right direction. OLPE has also spread to other states of India by way of tie-ups between EDI and some prestigious institutions, and this effort is orienting thousands of students every year, steadily towards a positive perception.

Entrepreneurship has always beckoned people but amidst lack of guidance they have always found themselves torn between the desire to do something and what if I fail feeling. The activities under this thrust are aimed at bridging the gap between the two and promoting more aware, knowledge-oriented, motivated entrepreneurs.
