PLANNING FOR THE YEAR 2022-23
“Higher incidence of entrepreneurship could be a game changer for economies,
especially for the developing ones, like India. India depends hugely on its Micro, Small,
and Medium Enterprises. These businesses make a tangible contribution to the GDP of
the country and generate substantial employment. It becomes our responsibility to
spur entrepreneurship and ensure propagation of new entrants in business.
Very aptly, during the difficult times of COVID 19, the Government thought it important
to review and assess revivification of the MSME sector. Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan
came in as a blessing and a ray of hope for Indian MSMEs. Various other schemes of the
Govt. like the ‘Make in India, Startup India, Digital India, Vocal for Local among other
initiatives, took centre stage in opening up new avenues for MSMEs. Given the
demands of the time, EDII has envisioned the year 2022-23 with emphasis on skill
training, innovative programmes and the need to strategically intervene in the
domains of Education, Policy Advocacy, Research, Projects with the Government &
Corporates, Business Development Services and Developing Economy Engagements.
In addition to the core activities of the Institute under the above domains, the coming
year will focus on studying the impact of COVID pandemic on MSMEs so that outcome-
based programmes could be developed. While the Gujarat Model of Industrialization
and Entrepreneurship Development will be probed, focus would also be placed on
reviewing the empowerment of the differently abled through skill building. MSME
development and growth will be focussed upon against the backdrop of policies,
scalability and viability factors. In a feat of sorts, India has recorded 42 unicorns in the
year 2021 alone, which only inspires us to target entrepreneurial endeavours, with all
the more rigour. Today new entrepreneurs have a conducive world. They have access
to a huge support infrastructure which provides subsidised business development
services, facilitates easy access to quality raw material, machinery and appropriate
technology, credit on favourable terms; support in domestic and export marketing,
quality improvement, entrepreneurial and managerial training, consultancy and
counselling services, etc.
The coming year will, therefore, witness EDII playing a lead role in institutionalizing
entrepreneurship yet more intensely, ensuring that a new breed of entrepreneurs is
readied to take the plunge in different domains, with an understanding of crisis
management, preparedness to adopt technology and an eye on undertaking holistic
contingency plan.
I would, however, say that all this and more is happening. We are gradually coming
around. So, let us all traverse together in this mission.”
My best wishes to all !!!
