THE EDI LIBRARY AND INFORMATION CENTRE (EDILIC)

Introduction

To serve the diverse needs of EDI faculty, staff, students and participants of various short term and long term programmes, EDILIC was set up way back in 1983. Enriched with updated information sources on Entrepreneurship and related subjects, it is an information resource centre of national and international repute.

Location, Space And Infrastructure

An air-conditioned library is situated in a separate building of the Institute. It consists of basement and ground floor. The reading materials (books, current journals, etc.) are placed in the ground floor while basement contains back-volumes of journals.
Three Pentium machines equipped with DVD/CD-ROM drive, printer, Internet and in-house video facilities constitute important part of library infrastructure.

Library Timings
The library opening hours are
  • Monday to Friday        – 0800 hours to 2300 hours
  • Saturday and Sunday – 0930 hours to 1730 hours
          (Library will be closed on the public holidays observed by the Institute.)

Automation

Library has been fully automated through LibSys Software. All the library holdings are accessible through Institute’s Intranet facility. EDILIC uses Bar Code Technology for its lending service.

 

Library Advisory Commettee

A professional Librarian supported by four professional colleagues heads the Library. A Library Advisory Committee consisting of Librarian and three faculty members nominated by Director assists in the selection of books and acquisition of other library material.

 

Financial Resources

Library spends around Rs. 12 lakh per year for the purchase of books, subscription of journals, magazines, newspapers, videocassettes, CD-ROMs, etc.

Library Collection

EDI's fast growing library is equipped with a large number of text and reference books on entrepreneurship and related subjects. The EDILIC endeavours to support the teaching, research and academic needs of the faculty, students and participants of the Institute, through books, journals and other reading material. The library caters to the needs of around 60 permanent and visiting faculty and staff members, PG Students, participants of various short term and long term programmes conducted by EDI. The total collection of Library is more than 14000 books and other materials, selected after careful scrutiny by the Library Advisory Committee.

Journals/Periodicals/Newspapers

EDILIC is subscribing 133 national and international journals in the field of entrepreneurship and related subjects (See list). Library also subscribes to 19 Newspapers published from Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.

Audio-Video Collection

EDILIC has a collection of 200 videocassettes produced by EDI and other organizations and 600 CDs/VCDs. The library offers facility of in-house viewing of videocassettes and CDs.

Online Databases
  • EDILIC is subscribing KOMPASS, one of the world’s leading Business-to-Business information in 76 countries. It helps to identify suppliers of products and services, potential partners, research competitors and analyse market sectors for potential opportunities.

  • Indiastat.com provides an oceanic depth of India-specific socio-economic statistical facts and figures.

Library And Information Services
  • Lending Service – Books and Back volumes of Journals will be issued to all library members.

  • Article Database – Article database contains information on selected articles from core journals subscribed by EDILIC.

  • Reference Service – Users are facilitated to get the required information instantly. Product Information Database – This database contains information on about 6000 product profiles published by various organisations.

  • Industrial Information Service – From various specialized information sources of EDILIC, specific information such as; a product profiles, feasibility study reports, industrial and economic statistics, trade statistics, directory information on manufacturers and industrial organizations will be provided to all the members.

  • Information and Documentation Services – Library provides information services to its users such as Current Awareness Services (CAS) and Selective Dissemination Services (SDI)

  • Press Clippings Service – Latest news items relevant to ones area of interest are scanned from 19 leading daily newspapers and distributed to the users.

  • Referral Services – Library users are directed to other libraries and information centres to get information.

  • Photocopying Service – EDILIC provides photocopying services to its users at nominal charges.

  • Inter-Library Loan Service – Through this service, EDILIC borrows books from other libraries on request by users. Also EDILIC issues books to other libraries on mutual interest.

Institutional Membership

EDILIC is an institutional member of Indian Library Association (ILA), Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres (IASLIC), Management Libraries Network (MANLIBNET) and The British Library, Ahmedabad. Apart from this, EDILIC is regularly using services of Ahmedabad Library Network (ADINET) and Information and Library Network Centre (INFLIBNET).
