His areas of special interest are: policy research, cluster development, sub-sector analysis, micro-finance and rural banking, rural entrepreneurship and NGOs. Dr. Awasthi is a Member of various Apex Committees and Core Groups of Ministries of MSME, Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Department of Science & Technology, National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector, etc.

Has 15 years of experience in the field of Entrepreneurship Development and two years of experience in the area of rehabilitation of Adolescents engaged in hazardous occupation. He worked with the Centre for Management in Agriculture, IIM-Ahmedabad, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Assam Institute of Management, Guwahati and Institute of Science Management, Ranchi, before joining EDI. He worked as Principle Investigator, Assam Dairy Consumption Survey, Dairy Development Project, sponsored by the World Bank. His research and consultancy interests are in the areas of agribusiness, microfinance, rural entrepreneurship and international trade policy.

Has around 21 years of extensive experience in micro, small and medium enterprise development, youth enterprise development, teaching, research and consultancy. Worked as an Entrepreneurship Development Expert for the Commonwealth Secretariat, London for Malawi, Africa, Dominica, St.Lucia, West Indies. Has 2 books and 22 research papers to his credit. His areas of expertise are Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management in LDC, HIPC and Small Island Countries.

His major academic engagements are in the fields of Good Governance, Alternative Paradigms of Development, Decentralization and Social Accountability Mechanisms in the Service Delivery Context. A multilingual, proficient in several different languages, including Russian, Dr. Santosh Kumar is associated with quite a few national and international Universities of repute in various capacities. He has about four books, ten referred papers published in national and international journals, and several research and field action projects to his credit. He is also in the board of several esteemed national and international academic institutions and professional bodies. At EDI, he is the Chairperson of the Post Graduate Diploma in Management of NGOs.

Specialises in the areas of finance and accounts with 17 years experience in Government and Industry. Presently involved in counselling existing entrepreneurs for growth; training bankers and investment promotion officers in the area of project appraisal; teaching finance, accounts and small business management to PG students. At present working on Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI) in 7 cities of Africa for developing Industrial Infrastructure and Policies.

Heads the Centre for Micro Enterprise, Micro Finance & Sustainable Livelihoods. Providing hand holding and mentoring support to the informal / unorganized sector in the area of Handloom, Handicraft and also the village industries and Khadi sector.
